Concept

Converting an old house into a mountain hut style

A private, whole-house rental where outdoor enthusiasts can relax, recharge, and make their own schedule in complete privacy.

Traditional old house

Once a traditional home in Yamagata, this kominka was painstakingly relocated to Tsuchiyu Onsen about 40 years ago. Today it stands as a 150-year-old historic home.

Inheriting an old house from a kokeshi craftsman

A local kokeshi-doll artisan originally owned the farmhouse and planned to tear it down. After countless conversations we discovered a shared dream: reviving the Onna-numa area while honoring its heritage. That vision sparked the Kominka Project—a base where “the old meets the new,” breathing fresh life into a beloved building and the surrounding community.

A place that connects people

Even with limited funds, a circle of passionate friends began a DIY restoration. The work continues to evolve, guided by a simple pledge: protect and nurture this kominka for the next 50, even 100 years—and let it keep connecting people.
